AGILE Project: Kano Govt. engages stakeholders on life skills training manual

The Kano State Ministry of Education has engaged various stakeholders on life skills training manual under Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project.

The State Commissioner for Education,
Umar Doguwa, who spoke during the two day high level stakeholders review of life skills training manual under AGILE project on Wednesday in Kano, said the ministry has produced a new version of the project content.

“Few weeks ago respected Ulamas raised concern about some content of the curriculum initially developed for Kano AGILE project.

“They alleged that the Project, being carried out in Kano Secondary School had an alarming hidden connotations.

” On receiving the reports against the project from our respected scholars, we formed a committee to go through all the contents of the documents.

“We were able to expunge certain ideas, comments that we understand are probably against our religion”, Doguwa said.

Doguwa called on parents and the general Public to report any project in the state that contradicts religious teachings and cultural norms.

On his part, the Kano State Project Coordinator AGILE, Alhaji Nasiru Abdullahi-Kwalli, said the reviewed manual would be translated into Hausa and Arabic to enable every stakeholder see what is inculcated into adolescent girls in the state.

He said that the aim of the review was to look at the project inwardly, make observations and corrections in order to provide sound, acceptable manual, based on Islamic religious and social norms in the state.

AGILE Project is a World Bank assisted project of the Federal Ministry of Education, geared at improving secondary education opportunities for adolescent girls, aged between 10 and 20.
