Kano State Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umar (Rtd), has resigned his appointment with immediate effect.

The resignation was contained in a letter dated Monday and addressed to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.

A copy of the letter was made available to journalists in Kano shortly after it was submitted.

In the letter, AVM Umar said his decision to step down followed what he described as a strained relationship between the governor and his political mentor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

“I write with profound gratitude and a deep sense of duty to formally tender my resignation from my position as the Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Kano State, with immediate effect,” the letter read in part.

The former commissioner expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf for the confidence reposed in him, recalling his initial appointment as Director General of the Special Services Directorate in June 2023 and his subsequent elevation to commissioner.

He described his tenure as an honour and privilege, noting that his service was guided by the principles of Senator Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which he said emphasise justice, discipline, and service to the people.

“Following the recent turn of events, I believe it is in the best interest of the state and the administration that I step aside from this role,” Umar stated, adding that the decision was taken after careful consideration.

Despite his resignation, the retired Air Vice Marshal assured the governor and the people of Kano State of his continued support for the administration and its commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous state.

He concluded the letter with prayers for Governor Yusuf, Kano State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, asking Almighty Allah to grant the governor wisdom, strength, and good health as he continues to lead the state.
