Residents of Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano metropolis were thrown into mourning after unknown assailants stormed the home of Haruna Bashir, killing his wife and six children.
Residents described the attack as one of the most shocking incidents in the area.
The victims, Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her children Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7), and Abdussalam, barely one and a half years old, were said to have been attacked with dangerous weapons after hoodlums broke into their residence at Dorayi Gidan Kwari on Friday
Kabiru Ibrahim, a resident, told pressmen that the incident has left the community devastated, with many struggling to come to terms with the gruesome murder of an entire household.
Ibrahim said the bodies were evacuated to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where doctors confirmed them dead.
Confirming the incident, Kano State Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered investigation into the issue.
He added that the Criminal Investigation Department of the command had already commenced a thorough probe to track down the perpetrators.
“The command extends its condolences to the family and the people of Dorayi Chiranchi. We assure the public that investigation has begun and justice will be served,” Kiyawa said.
