Journalists working in Borno state have received threat text massage from the 7 Division spokesperson Lt.-Col. A. Y Jingina, warning that any journalists who fail to summit press tag given to them during the opening of COAS Conference 2023 will be consider as a plan to breach national security.
The Borno state NUJ Chairman, Comrade Dauda Iliya, received the threat text massage in Maiduguri on Friday.
According to text massage, the journalists who officially invited to the “COAS Conference 2023” have no right to still hold the access tag.
“Mr Chairman thanks for organizing your people to boycott the Closing Ceremony of COAS Annual Conference 2023, you are indeed a good citizen of Nigeria.
“Equally tell your members “Journalists” that anyone of them that is still holding our Tag should bring to the venue of our event before 0800 hours where they collected it otherwise we will interpret as a plan to breach our security.
“They don’t have the right to hold our access Tag if they not coming please.
This is the first time such threats would be issued to journalists covering the counter insurgency in Borno.
Journalists in state have been the counter insurgency since 2009, with no spokeperson ever requested journalist to return the access tag given.
