Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has announced his defection from the (PDP) to the (APC), describing the move as a strategic decision taken in the best interest of Adamawa State and its people.

In a statewide broadcast delivered from Yola on Friday, February 27, 2026, the governor said the decision followed wide consultations and careful consideration of the state’s long-term stability, development, and prosperity.

Addressing residents, Governor Fintiri recalled the overwhelming mandates given to him in the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections, stating that his administration remains conscious of the moral responsibility imposed by the people’s trust.

He highlighted key achievements of his government, including improvements in security, construction of roads, schools, hospitals, markets, and housing projects, as well as investments in education, water, and electricity. He also cited youth and women empowerment initiatives and the creation of new chiefdoms, emirates, and districts as part of efforts to promote inclusion and development.

The governor said his administration has consistently been guided by consultation, legality, and impact in its decision-making process, noting that recent political developments at the national level necessitated a decisive and strategic realignment.

According to him, aligning with the APC would enable Adamawa State to better support and leverage the Renewed Hope Agenda of President , particularly in the areas of social welfare, infrastructure, housing, and inclusive economic development.

Governor Fintiri stressed that the decision to leave the PDP was not driven by personal ambition or political convenience but by the overriding need to reposition the state within mainstream national politics for greater opportunities and benefits.

He disclosed that the defection includes the full political structure of his administration across the 226 wards and 21 local government areas of the state, encompassing elected and appointed officials.

Calling on supporters to register massively with the APC, the governor assured residents that his administration would continue to deliver on its developmental agenda, irrespective of political platform. He pledged sustained investment in infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth and women empowerment, job creation, and scholarships for indigent students.

Governor Fintiri concluded by urging citizens to maintain their trust in his leadership, describing the move as a bold step toward securing a more prosperous and strategically positioned future for Adamawa State.
