The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has approved the expulsion of 57 students over their involvement in various forms of examination misconduct.
The university senate said the move is a decisive effort to uphold academic integrity,
The university also rusticated 8 students for lesser infractions, while 2 students were exonerated after thorough investigations.
The sanctions were ratified during the Senate’s 427th meeting, held on Wednesday, in line with the institution’s General Examination and Academic Regulations (GEAR) and other relevant academic policies governing both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
The announcement was made in an official statement signed by Aminu Wada Kurawa, Director of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records (DEAR).
57 students expelled for confirmed cases of examination malpractice, 8 students rusticated (temporarily suspended) for one or two semesters depending on the severity of the offence, 2 students exonerated after investigations cleared them of any wrongdoing, and 1 case deferred pending the conclusion of an ongoing investigation.
The expelled students were drawn from various faculties and departments across the university, including the Faculties of Education, Engineering, Allied Health Sciences, Social and Management Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and the School of Postgraduate Studies.
The university administration reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of academic dishonesty, stressing that examination malpractice undermines the integrity of its academic programs and the value of its degrees.
“This decision is a reflection of BUK’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, discipline, and the enforcement of university regulations,” the statement from DEAR read.
