Chief judge releases five inmates in Bauchi state

The Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Hon. Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, has concluded a successful jail delivery resulting in the release of five (5) inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centres in Bauchi.

According to its command Public Relations Officer ASC Ahmad Tata, the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to decongest correctional facilities across the state and promote the timely administration of justice.

During the visit, Hon. Justice Umar reviewed several cases of inmates awaiting trial and exercised judicial discretion in ordering the release of those deemed eligible.

In her remarks, the Chief Judge urged prosecutors to show greater diligence in their duties, particularly in concluding investigations and presenting evidence promptly to avoid unnecessary delays in court proceedings. She also advised the released inmates to be law-abiding and to engage in activities that would benefit themselves, their families, and society as a whole.


The Controller of Corrections, Bauchi State Command, CCS Isa Nuru Mohammed, expressed his gratitude to the Chief Judge for her commitment and for taking the time to personally inspect the custodial centres. He also acknowledged the vital role played by the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee (ACJMC) in supporting the decongestion efforts. He encouraged the released inmates to demonstrate good behavior as they reintegrate into society.

The released inmates conveyed their heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Justice Umar and pledged to make positive changes in their lives going forward.
