An elderly man, identified as Ladan Zubairu, was killed on Monday morning at Yusuf Garko Mosque in the Maraba Quarters area of Kano, sparking tension in the community.
Pressmen gathered that the incident occurred at dawn while the victim was at the mosque for the early morning prayers. According to his son, Isa Kasim, Zubairu had completed the first call to prayer and was seated for supplications when an unidentified man entered the mosque and attacked him.
The assailant reportedly fled the scene but was later chased by an angry mob, beaten to death, and his residence set ablaze before security operatives intervened and restored calm to the area.
Residents described the incident as shocking, noting that Zubairu was well known in the community. As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had taken control of the area, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack were ongoing.
