European-American University (EAU) has issued a disclaimer refuting media reports that it conferred an honorary doctorate degree on Hausa political singer, Dauda Kahutu Rarara, at a ceremony in Abuja.

In the statement published on its official website, the University on Saturday described the alleged event at NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja, as “fraudulently organized without the knowledge or consent of the University.”

It stressed that neither Rarara nor others mentioned in the reports — including Alhaji Ahmed Saleh Jnr., Prof. Mustapha Abdullahi Bujawa, and Prof. Tarela Boroh — were recipients of any honorary doctorate from the institution.

“These individuals are not honorands of the University and have no legitimate connection with us,” the disclaimer read.

The University also disowned Musari Audu Isyaku, who was cited as its Northern Nigeria representative, and denied that Idris Aliyu was a member of its Governing Council.

It clarified that no such governing council exists, and that Aliyu’s previous Fellowship appointment was revoked for his involvement in the alleged fraudulent activity.

EAU further reminded the public that its former Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mrs. Josephine Egbuta, had been dismissed earlier in the year and is no longer authorized to act on behalf of the University.

The current Vice Chancellor, it noted, is Professor Luca Scotto di Tella de’ Douglas di Castel di Ripa.

Clarifying its legal status, the University explained that it is established as a nonprofit private institution of higher education in France and holds a Royal Charter of Incorporation from the Kingdom of Bunyoro-Kitara in Uganda.

It dismissed claims linking it to Dominica and Panama as “outdated and false.”

The disclaimer further stated that the University will involve Nigerian authorities to stop the issuing of fake certificates in its name and ensure those responsible are prosecuted.

EAU also announced that its next official convocation in Nigeria is scheduled for November 15, 2025, while another awards ceremony will hold in Malaysia in December.
