The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026 as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, which signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
In the statement, the minister congratulated Muslim faithful across the country on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and urged them to continue upholding the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance and sacrifice emphasized during the holy month.
He also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the nation’s continued peace, unity and prosperity.
Tunji-Ojo encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged within their communities.
The minister further assured that the federal government remains committed to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
