In a strong display of political alignment and national unity, the Chief of Staff to the President and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has called on Northern political stakeholders to stand solidly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gbajabiamila made the call during the 2025 Dialogue Session of the Northern Caucus of the National Forum of Former Legislators, held in Abuja on Thursday.
The influential gathering brought together prominent northern political figures and former lawmakers committed to fostering inclusive governance and national cohesion.
Describing President Tinubu as a “tested, trusted, and transformative leader,” Gbajabiamila urged the North to remain unwavering in its support, stressing that Tinubu’s administration has proven to be one of fairness, balance, and progress for all regions.
“President Tinubu is not just a Southern leader; he is a national leader,” Gbajabiamila declared. “He has carried every region along — and the North, in particular, has seen tangible evidence of his inclusive governance, especially in infrastructure, agriculture, and economic reforms.”
He pointed to major infrastructure investments across Northern Nigeria, including road construction, railway revitalization, and agricultural transformation, as clear indicators that the North has not been left behind in the national development agenda.
“President Tinubu is laying a solid foundation for a more prosperous Nigeria. It is only right that he is allowed to complete what he has started,” Gbajabiamila added, drawing applause from the assembled stakeholders.
The session concluded with the Northern Caucus issuing a strong communiqué, formally endorsing President Tinubu’s re-election bid and affirming the principle of rotational presidency as essential to national unity and fairness.
“We believe in equity, fairness, and political stability,” the communiqué stated. “It is in the best interest of the North—and Nigeria as a whole—that the South completes its turn in the power rotation. We therefore endorse the continuation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership beyond 2027.”
The communiqué was jointly signed by Hon. Rufai Chanchangi, Coordinator of the Caucus, and Hon. Atiwurcha, Secretary of the group.
National Chairman of the Forum, Hon. Nnanna Igbokwe, lauded the Northern Caucus for what he described as “a bold and patriotic stand,” saying the resolution reflects maturity and a commitment to Nigeria’s democratic stability.
“This is a powerful message of statesmanship and unity,” Igbokwe said. “The Northern leaders have shown that the interest of Nigeria comes first. I believe other zones will follow this courageous example.”
The 2025 Dialogue Session forms part of ongoing national consultations by the Forum of Former Legislators, aimed at promoting unity, inclusive governance, and a smooth democratic transition.
With this strategic endorsement, President Tinubu’s second-term ambition has received a significant boost from the North, further solidifying his image as a unifying leader who governs with fairness, vision, and purpose.
