The Borno State Government has unveiled several groundbreaking projects to enhance infrastructure, ease transportation, and provide affordable housing for its citizens.

During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to tackling housing challenges, improving road networks, and stimulating economic growth.

The projects include the Njimtilo 500 Housing Units, Metro Housing Estate, the iconic Borno Express Flyover, and the dualization of the Shuwari-Ndakura Road. These developments aim to cater to the needs of federal and state personnel, such as police officers and healthcare workers, with modern amenities.

In a gesture of recognition, Governor Zulum named the projects after prominent figures. The Njimtilo Housing Estate bears the name of Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, while the Metro Housing Estate and Government Day Secondary School Mairi are named after Vice President Kashim Shettima. Additionally, the dualized Shehu Sanda Kyarimi Road honors the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi.

Governor Zulum highlighted the significance of the Borno Express Flyover, describing it as a major milestone for reducing congestion, improving safety, and boosting commuter convenience in Maiduguri. The dualized Shuwari-Ndakura Road was also noted for its potential to drive economic activities and ease traffic flow.

Commending contractors, engineers, and residents for their patience and support during the construction phases, Zulum assured citizens of further infrastructural upgrades, including modernizing outdated housing for federal and state personnel.

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, who graced the occasion, expressed gratitude to Governor Zulum and the people of Borno for the honor of naming a project after him. He lauded the bond between Borno and Yobe States, emphasizing their shared resilience in overcoming insurgency challenges and their achievements under the Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, and Recovery program.

Buni praised Borno’s developmental progress and encouraged residents to support government policies and take ownership of the projects. He also acknowledged the Federal Government, security agencies, and NGOs for their contributions to rebuilding efforts in the region.

In his closing remarks, Governor Buni invited Governor Zulum to the commissioning of legacy projects in Yobe State, reinforcing the collaborative efforts between the two states in fostering development and prosperity for their citizens. END
