Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has revealed that the previous administration’s failure to pay N1.3 billion in NECO and NBAIS fees hindered the education of thousands of Kano students.

Governor Yusuf made this known during the declaration of a state of emergency on education in Kano state, expressing regret that the previous administration abandoned the legacies of former Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

The Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, stated that the previous administration left a backlog of liability for examination fees, which the current administration has paid.

The state government has approved N2.9 billion for NECO and NBAIS registration fees for 121,597 students in public schools.

Governor Yusuf’s administration has also sponsored 1,001 graduates for higher degrees in foreign universities and paid registration fees for Kano State students at Bayero University and other institutions.

The government has reintroduced a revolving soft loan for primary school teachers, with N300 million approved for distribution.

Some teachers have already received their cheques, demonstrating the Governor’s commitment to supporting education and human capital development.

The Governor’s efforts aim to restore Kano State’s educational excellence and provide opportunities for its citizens.

The clearance of the liability and approval of soft loans demonstrate Governor Yusuf’s dedication to education and teacher support.
