The Council Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government Area, Dr. Mani Tsoho Gwarzo, has issued a stern advisory to residents regarding the dumping of refuse in drainage systems, emphasizing that such practices may significantly contribute to flooding in the area.
During a recent press briefing in his office, Dr. Gwarzo highlighted the critical importance of maintaining clean drainage channels to ensure the proper flow of water, especially in light of the rainy season. He stated, “Dumping refuse in our drainage systems not only creates blockages but also exacerbates the risk of water flooding, posing a threat to lives and properties within our community.”
The Chairman called on all residents to take personal responsibility for maintaining their environment and to utilize designated waste disposal methods instead of using drainage systems. He reminded everyone that community cleanliness is essential for public health and safety.
Dr. Gwarzo further urged local leaders and community members to spread awareness about the detrimental effects of improper waste disposal. “We all have a role to play in keeping Gwarzo safe and flood-free,” he added.
In light of these concerns, the Gwarzo Local Government Council is exploring additional measures to improve waste management and drainage systems to safeguard against flooding. Residents are encouraged to report any instances of illegal dumping to the council.
