ISWAP launches coordinated attacks in Yobe, shoots traditional ruler

Suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have launched coordinated attacks on Ja Jibiri and Ladu villages in Yobe State, leaving a traditional ruler injured, a driver abducted, and a health facility looted.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama disclosed that the attacks occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on Dec. 27, 2025. During the raid on Ja Jibiri village, the village head, Lawan Hassan, 45, was shot on the left shoulder by the assailants.

The attackers later moved to Ladu village, where they abducted Madu Kura, a 40-year-old driver of a Toyota Hilux.

They also forced their way into the Primary Health Care Medical Centre, from where they looted medical consumables and other valuables, in addition to carting away a Golf motor car.

Hassan was subsequently taken to Geidam Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, security personnel in the area have been placed on high alert as monitoring continues and efforts are intensified to track down the insurgents.
