Kano Govt Dismisses Rumor On Spending Billions On Goat

The Kano State Government has dismissed rumors circulating that it spent ₦2.335 billion on procuring goats for its livestock women empowerment programs.

According to the state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullah Waiya, the actual amount spent on goats was ₦450 million.

According to him, this clarification was made to set the record straight and provide accurate information to the public.

The commissioner pointed out that, the empowerment program, which aims to promote economic independence among women and youth, involved the distribution of livestock to beneficiaries.

Comrade Waiya pointed out that, under this phase of the program, 7,158 goats were distributed to 2,386 female beneficiaries, with each recipient receiving three goats to support their livestock entrepreneurship.

He highlighted that, 1,400 units of cows and 1,975 rams were also distributed to women and youths to promote self-reliance.

The commissioner emphasized governments commitment to transparency and accountability, urging journalists to verify information before publishing to avoid spreading misinformation.

“The empowerment program is part of the administration’s broader strategy to foster economic independence among vulnerable groups in the state”.

Daily facts reports that, the livestock women empowerment programs was launched on Tuesday by the Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf to combat poverty and promote self reliance.
