Kano plans amnesty for repentant thugs

The Kano state government in collaboration with Kano police command and state command of the National Drugs Law Enforcements Agency NDLEA has launched a (SAFE CORRIDOR PROJECTS) an initiatives to tackled thuggery, phone snatching and other criminal activities in the state.

 

 

The “safe corridor project (Kano Model)” was designed to rehabilitated repented thugs so as to address thuggery in Kano state through Non-Kinetic approach.

 

The executive governor of the state Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf during the flagging-off ceremony said the some of the rehabilitated would be integrated into constabulary of the Nigerian police while others would be empowered to start business and support the security apparatus.

 

The governor represented by the state commissioner for information and internal affairs Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya assured that the state government would fully engaged the repented thugs on various empowerment aimed at changing their life’s positively.

 

 

“Whoever joined this corridor will be granted amnesty to any crime he has committed in the past, and the executive governor of Kano state Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf whill support him with a token to start business or any entrepreneurship or skills so as to sustain himself and his family,” said Waiya.

 

In a remark, the Kano state commissioner of police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori reminded the gathering that the issue of security is not the sole responsibility of the police or other security agencies alone, but a collective role of all stakeholders.

 

“I want to use this opportunity to call on all the good people of Kano State to continue cooperating with the Police and other security agencies. Your vigilance, support, and timely provision of information are critical in addressing the challenges of insecurity. The Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property. but we cannot do it alone. Together, through collaboration and mutual trust, we can create a safer Kano for ourselves, our children, and future generations,” said commissioner.

 

 

The commissioner then urged community leaders, religious leaders, and stakeholders to intensify their efforts in sensitizing our youth on the dangers of violence, crime, and other anti-social behaviors.

 

“A Message to our youth, especially those who have been involved in Daba activities or other forms of thuggery, 1 appeal to you today to repent, lay down your arms, and embrace peace. The life of crime and violence leads only to destruction, pain, and regret not just for you, but for your families and communities as well,” he said.

 

“The Kano State Government, through this “Safe Corridor program, is offering you a second chance to start afresh and become productive members of society. Take this opportunity seriously. Let today mark the beginning of a new chapter in your lives,” Bakori added.

 

“The Police Command is committed to supporting programs like this and will continue to work with the government and other stakeholders to ensure that those who choose the path of peace are empowered, rehabilitated, and reintegrated into society,” he revealed.

 

Bakori then commended the Kano State Government for this laudable initiative in making Kano secured.

 

Also commenting, the commander of the Kano state command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) represented by Abubakar Idris Ahmed lauded the achievement recorded, noting that the command will support all the repented thugs to achieved their goals.

 

The event has in attendance, the commander general of Kano state Hisbah board Sheik Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the state commander of neighborhood watch (Vijilantee), Professors from Kaduna state, traditional rulers and others.

 

Also speaking, one of the repented thugs named Buzu Maikidan Gangi assured the stakeholders that they will do everything in their power to support the security of the state as well as repenting others.
