A former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, Abbas Sani Abbas, has officially left the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and joined the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Independent Mirror reported that Mr. Abbas, who was recently dismissed alongside five other commissioners by Governor Abba Yusuf, was welcomed into the APC by the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin.

“I welcomed Hon. Abbas Sani Abbas to our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), a moment ago,” Mr. Jibrin announced in a Facebook post.

“He served as the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State until last month. During a visit to us in Kano, he announced his exit from the NNPP to the APC.

“Joined by the Chairman of our party in Kano State, Prince Abdullahi Abbas (Ɗan Sarki, Jikan Sarki), and other party leaders, we proudly embraced Hon. Abbas, a dedicated grassroots mobiliser to our party.

“We assured him of our unwavering support as we work together to build a better future for the people of Kano State and, indeed, all Nigerians. Together, we will continue to promote the values of good governance, inclusivity, and service to humanity.”

In recent months, Mr. Jibrin has welcomed several defectors from the NNPP into the APC, further strengthening the party’s presence in Kano State
