Kano State Government has unveiled it’s plan to establish special schools that would cater the need of Orphans and less privileged children in the state.
The State Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa who made this known today Thursday while receiving management of Ulul Albab College Zaria that paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Doguwa maintained that students of the school would be drawn from the 44 local government areas of the state and would be given free education.
” The present administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf is very keen and passionate in supporting Orphans and the children of less privileged to acquire qualitative education. This explains our plan to come with idea of establishing school Orphanage to be part of our timeline agenda.
“With this development, Kano State Government will be ready to offer hands of collaboration with Ulul Albab Education College and any other organizations that will complement it’s effort towards promoting the education sector ” he said.
Umar Doguwa noted that establishment of the college has come at the right time when the administration is designing new strategies of reviving the state education.
The Commissioner lamented that the level of damage done to the sector in the previous time needed concerted effort and commitment by the administration to revive and put things in to order.
” In 2015, the state had about 45,000 Boarding School Students both Boys and Girls but due to the policy of the previous administration on Boarding School closure, we now have only 9000 Boarding Students across the state ” he stated.
On the documents presented by the college to the state, Commissioner Doguwa said government would study and come out with possible ways of working together to promote education in the state.
Earlier, the Chairman Board of Trustees of the college Alhaji Mahmoud Tauhid said thay were at the Commissioner’s office to intimate him about the school and seek for new areas of collaboration.
He said the college has over 650 students who are Orphans and the children of the less privileged receiving virtually free education.
Alhaji Mahmoud stated that a part from the islamic education offered at the college, there is a program on youth rehabilitation where youth who engaged on drugs abuse are rehabilitated in the college.
” This college ficuses on the Northern states and by the next 10 years, we hope to cover not only the North, but the whole nation and some part of the West African Countries.
” Based on this development, we find it imperative to come and intimate Kano State Government about the school and seek for possible collaboration to improve the education sector ” he stressed.
