The Kano State Government, in collaboration with Partnership For Learning For All in Nigeria (PLANE), has organized a 3-day procurement training program for planning officers in the education sector.

The training, which took place at Tahir Guest Palace, aimed to equip participants with in-depth knowledge of procurement planning and its benefits for successful implementation.

According to Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Education, Kano State, the training is part of the state government’s efforts to revive the education sector. The government has declared a state of emergency on education and is committed to training and retraining staff to achieve effective service delivery.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammad, represented the State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, at the closing ceremony. He urged participants to make the best use of their newfound knowledge to improve their performance as planning and procurement officers. He also commended PLANE for partnering with Kano State Government on different educational development programs.

The training program covered various technical sessions, including Kano State public financial management law and public procurement law. Participants gained a better understanding of the Kano State public procurement law, enhanced their compliance with the Kano State education sector implementation law, and acquired basic knowledge on effective implementation of education sector procurements in Kano State.

The Project Consultant PLANE, Mr. Chukwuma Chinaka, revealed that the training was designed to provide participants with practical skills and knowledge to improve procurement planning and implementation in the education sector. With this training, the Kano State Government is taking a significant step towards enhancing transparency, accountability, and effectiveness in the education sector.
