Garba Musa Kwankwaso, a younger brother to a former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has dragged Governor Abba Yusuf to court, seeking an interlocutory injunction restraining the governor and other defendants from taking action adverse to their interest in relations to a vast expanse of land.
According to court documents obtained by DAILY NIGERIAN, other respondents include the state commissioner for Land and Physical Planning as 2nd defendant; Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority, KNUPDA as 3rd defendant; the Attorney General of Kano State as 4th defendants and Unknown Persons as 5th defendants.
It was gathered that the land in question, situated at Kwankwasiyya City, was initially allocated to WAECO Nigeria Limited during Mr Kwankwaso’s administration but revoked by his successor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
In 2017, findings by Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission revealed that the actual company behind the “WAECO” acronym was “Water and Agricultural Engineering Company Limited”, in which the former governor and his brother are directors.
The Muhuyi Rimingado-led anti-graft agency therefore recommended for the revocation of the land, saying WAECO at the time of allocation of the land was not a legal entity and as such cannot be allocated a land.
After the revocation, Mr Ganduje relocated Mallam Kato Square to a portion of the land and returned the remaining hectares to the original owners, including the famous Dantata family.
