Multiple explosions have rocked parts of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, leaving several people feared dead and many others injured.

Eyewitnesses say one of the blasts occurred at the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital at about 6:45 p.m., just as Muslim faithful were breaking their fast during Ramadan.

Another explosion was reported near the Maiduguri Monday Market, one of the city’s busiest commercial areas.

Although the exact number of casualties remains unclear, several people are feared killed, while many others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The injured victims have been evacuated to the Borno State Specialist Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.

Security agencies are yet to release an official statement on the incident as investigations continue.
