The Nigeria Police Force has issued a formal invitation to Muhammad Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, requesting his presence for an investigative meeting regarding a recent durbar celebration.
According to a letter obtained by various news outlets, the invitation, bearing the reference number CR:3000/FID/ FHQ/ABJ/VOL.59697, was addressed directly to the Emir’s Palace in Kano.
The letter, signed by Commissioner of Police Olajide Rufus Ibitoye on behalf of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), states:
“I have the directives of the Inspector General of police, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID) to invite you for an investigative meeting with regards to an incident that occurred during the Sallah celebration within your domain.”
The letter further specifies that the Emir is expected to appear at the Force Intelligence Department, located opposite the Police Force Headquarters in Area 11, Abuja, by 1000hrs on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
“Your availability is highly sought for a purposeful investigation,” the letter emphasizes.
The invitation follows reports of a durbar celebration conducted by the Emir during the recent Sallah festivities, despite alleged police directives against such gatherings. The exact nature of the “incident” referenced in the letter remains undisclosed.
The letter concludes with the Commissioner of Police conveying “the warm regards of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID).”
