President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sacked Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, now known as Yakubu Gowon University.

This decision came just hours after Maikudi presided over a matriculation ceremony at the university.

Maikudi’s appointment had been marred by controversy, with some lecturers alleging that she occupied the position illegally .

Despite this, Maikudi had achieved several milestones during her tenure, including becoming the first female and youngest Head of Department in 2013, and the pioneer Director of the University of Abuja International Centre in 2019 .

In Maikudi’s place, President Tinubu has appointed Professor Lar Patricia Manko as the Acting Vice Chancellor for a six-month term.

Notably, Manko will not be eligible to apply for the substantive Vice Chancellor position when it becomes available.
