Troops of the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating in Udawa, have successfully neutralized seven terrorists during a fighting patrol on the Udawa–Kurebe road.
This action resulted in the recovery of various weapons and motorcycles.
Lt-Col. Musa Yahaya, the acting deputy director of Army Public Relations for the 1 Division, reported that the troops engaged the terrorists with a heavy volume of fire, resulting in the death of seven insurgents.
The recovered items included one pump-action gun, six cartridges, an empty AK-47 rifle magazine, an MP3 radio, a phone battery, two Baofeng radios and their chargers, four memory cards, two SIM cards, and four charms.
Additionally, on May 19, 2024, troops deployed at Sabo Birni in Igabi local government area of Kaduna State intercepted suspected terrorist movements in the Baka general area. They engaged the terrorists, who fled to nearby hills with gunshot wounds. The troops recovered one AK-47 rifle and two motorcycles at the scene.
In another operation, troops in Kwaga village, Birnin Gwari local government area, made contact with terrorist elements and neutralized two of the criminals. They recovered two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and two motorcycles.
Maj Gen M.L.D. Saraso, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division and commander of “Operation Whirl Punch,” commended the troops for their aggressive posture. He urged them to maintain the pressure on terrorists, insurgents, and violent extremists.
He also appealed to law-abiding citizens to report individuals with gunshot wounds seeking medical attention to the Nigerian Army or the nearest security agency. The GOC encouraged the people of Kaduna and Niger states to provide timely and actionable intelligence to support security operations.
