The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State has emerged victorious in the bye-election for Okura State Constituency.
Announcing the final results at the Egume Collation Centre in Dekina Local Government Area, the Returning Officer, Professor Emmanuel Enenche Onome, declared that the APC candidate, Hassan Shado, secured a total of 55,073 votes.
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 1,038 votes, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate recorded 445 votes.
Arise News observed that the exercise was characterized by low voter turnout. The opposition, however, alleged widespread vote buying, intimidation, and other electoral irregularities.
The bye-election was conducted to fill the vacant Okura State Constituency seat following the death of the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Enema Paul, in December 2024.
