Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the employment and issued permanent and pensionable appointment letters to 400 Mathematics teachers and 1,600 watchmen deployed across secondary schools in the state.

In a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor said the dual recruitment represents a strategic intervention to bridge critical manpower gaps in both academic performance and school security.

Governor Yusuf explained that Mathematics remains the backbone of science, technology, engineering, innovation, and overall national competitiveness.

He noted that recruiting qualified Mathematics teachers is essential to improving students’ performance, strengthening STEM pathways, and preparing Kano’s young population for a knowledge-driven global economy.

He added that the deployment of 1,600 watchmen marks a significant step towards restoring safety, discipline and stability in public schools, stressing that no meaningful teaching or learning can take place in an unsafe environment.

The Governor commended the Ministry of Education and the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSSMB) for conducting a transparent exercise that reflects the administration’s commitment to merit, due process and educational development.

He urged the newly employed teachers and watchmen to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism, dedication, integrity and a strong sense of responsibility in carrying out their duties.
