The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano State Command, says it’s partnering the Barau Football Club, Kano, to combat drug abuse among youths in the state.
This is contained in a statement issued to newsmen by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, on Monday in Kano.
The NDLEA state Commander, Mr Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, in the statement said that the partnership aimed at leveraging football as a platform to educate young people on the dangers of drug abuse and to promote healthy lifestyles.
Idris-Ahmad said that the agency and the club would collaborate on various initiatives such as football tournaments, awareness campaigns, and community outreach programmes.
“This partnership is a crucial step in our efforts to prevent drug abuse among young people.
“Sports have the power to inspire and educate; we are committed to working with Barau Football Club to make a positive impact in our community,” he said
The Chairman of Barau Football Club, Ibrahim Shitu-Chanji, said that the partnership was in line with the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin’s desire to curb the menace of drug abuse, especially in Kano State.
“We are excited to join forces with the NDLEA Kano State Command to tackle drug abuse among young people.
“Football has the ability to bring people together and promote positive change; we look forward to working together to make a difference,” he said.
The football club donated a set of jersey for the command’s team, named after the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the agency.
The jersey would be used in the ongoing second Military and Paramilitary tournament organised by the Kano State Sports Commission.
