NGO renovates classroom blocks, donates learning materials to Kano inmates

A Non Governmental Organization, Inmates Educational Foundation (IEF), has inaugurated the renovated two blocks of classrooms and donated educational materials to inmates of Medium Security Custodial Centre Gorondutse in Kano State.

The foundation also donated chairs, tables, notebooks, textbooks and stationary to inmates at the custodial school.

The Executive Director of the foundation, Mr Mahfuz Alabidun, said the decisions was to support the reformation and reintegration of inmates through education and entrepreneurship skills for a better society we all desire.

“Our mission is to ensure that every inmate in Nigeria deserves quality education for a better reformation and reintegration.

“To enable them contribute their quota to the sociopolitical economy in positive ways,”Alabidun said.

He said the foundation has also concluded discussions with the authorities to obtain forms and sponsor 20 inmates in the WAEC and GCE examinations in order to make them proceed in their education.

Alabidun commended the State Correctional Service for rebranding and repositioning the life of inmates to become productive and responsible for themselves and the society.

He commended the Nigeria Youth Future Funds and Leap Africa for their financial support in ensuring inmates are reformed through quality education.

On his part, the Controller of Corrections, Kano Command, Mr Sulaiman Inuwa, thanked the foundation for the kind gesture.

Inuwa, represented by Abdullah Ibrahim, officer In charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre Gorondutse, promised to utilise the learning materials in a positive way.

He noted that all Custodial Centers in the State engage their inmates in training and pursue their educational carrier in various field as enshrined in the Correctional Service Act 2019.

“Correctional Service provide inmates with skill acquisitions to help in reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration back into the society as better citizens,”Inuwa said.
