Unimaginable as it might seem. It is right to say that proper motorable roads leading to this village on the border have never existed. For decades residents of Kayarda village in Kano State, northwest Nigeria have been grappling with severe road conditions that isolate them from neighboring areas.

As seen in the graphic above, the sole pathway linking Kayarda, located about 100 km from Kano metropolis has deteriorated significantly, causing immense hardship. Travelers must navigate through several poorly maintained village roads ending abruptly in Fajewa, leaving Kayarda cut off.
WHAT HAS THEIR GOVERNMENT DONE?
Despite multiple federal and state budget allocations for road construction and reconstruction, including a 2017 project costing N900 million, progress remains stalled.

Pictured in the graphic above is a recent project aimed at repairing a collapsed culvert which was also funded but has seen little advancement.
Local residents, including farmers and businesspeople, report deaths, frequent accidents, halted economic activities, and severe difficulties during the rainy season.
According to residents all government representatives have visited the area. The Interim Caretaker Committee Chairman of Takai LGA, Ibrahim Abdulhadi Falali who promised to address these issues and ensure the project’s completion.
The persistent delays continue to impact the community deeply as these big questiond remain unanswered:
” why Kayarda? ”
” why is this village cut off ? ”
” Is it neglected because it’s at the state’s border ? ”
” does Kayarda have representation in government ? ”
