Hours after release of Adamu Alhaji Ibrahim, who was previously arrested as a primary suspect in the murder of one his wife, the Nigerian Police Force has spoken.
In a statement, ASP Sani Kamilu Shatambaya, police spokesman in Borno Tuesday evening said suspects—one of whom confessed to murdering the housewife—were arrested in the course of investigation.
The principal suspect, one Abatcha Bukar, 23, who hails from Gidan Dambe area where the murder took place was arrested, after which he confessed to the killing.
The names of the other suspects are given as Ibrahim Mustapha, Usman Yusuf, Muhammed Yunus, Nuhu Mohammed and Ismaila Mohammed Barka all hailing from Gwange General Area, Maiduguri.
Missing cellphone leads to suspects’ arrest
Police said he ‘it was discovered that the deceased’s cellphone was missing at the scene of the incident, therefore investigation was narrowed on tracking the IMEI NUMBER. The police efforts yielded positive result leading to the arrest of the following suspects.’
The suspects were found to be involved in the missing of the deceased’s phone, as Infinix Hot30i.
‘In furtherance of the investigation, it was discovered that the deceased cellphone was missing at the scene of the incident, therefore investigation was narrowed on tracking the IMEI NUMBER.
‘The police efforts yielded positive result leading to the arrest of the following suspects; Ibrahim Mustapha, Usman Yusuf, Muhammed Yunus, Nuhu Mohammed and Ismaila Mohammed Barka all male of Gwange General Area Maiduguri Metropolis, who were involved in the missing of the deceased infinix Hot30i handset.
‘The principal suspect one Abatcha Bukar m 23years of Gidan Dambe area was arrested and he confessed to the killing of the deceased,’ Shatambaya explained.
Adam released
Mr. Adam was released this afternoon after a week in police custody, having been arrested as a prime suspect.
Speaking to newsmen at his family’s residence, he said ‘the truth has prevailed’, without giving any further details.
‘What happened was a test of my faith and it could happen to anyone,’ he told our reporter.
‘I however have forgiven everyone, including those who tried to malign and tarnish my image. I have forgiven everyone,’ he added.
Mr. Adam who was not even allowed to attend his wife’s funeral proceedings, has been in police custody for over week.
He returned home last Tuesday to find his wife in a pool of her blood, roped and stabbed several times.
He then sought the help of his neighbor and police to rush her to the hospital where she was confirmed to have been long death.
