Over 200 Kano State contingent have arrived Kaduna ahead of the Northwest zonal eliminations for the 2027 Intermediate Games scheduled to hold in Lagos.
The contingent which comprised athletes, coaches, organizing secretaries, medical teams, journalists and officials of Kano state Sports Commission led by Dr. Bashir Ahmad Maizare.
The state athletes are expected to compete in team events namely; basketball, volleyball, handball, hockey, football among others.
While addressing the contingent before their departure, the Executive chairman of the state sports commission, Alhaji Muhammad Tukur Babangida charged the athletes’ and coaches to be good ambassador to the state.
Babangida said the commission had done everything possible to ensure that all the contingent received their allowances aimed at motivating them to excel in the zonal eliminations.
He warned the athletes and coaches that the commission and the state government will not tolerate indiscipline, urging them to project the good image of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration through sports.
The chairman however, commended the state government for releasing funds to the contingent, appealing to them to reciprocate the government gesture by emerging victorious at the end of the eliminations.
The intermediate was introduced by the National Sports Commission NSC as part the federal government commitment to discover younger skillful and talented players for future national and international engagements
It would be recalled that the championship which earlier schedule to hold from October 1st to 15th has been postponed to the first quarter of 2027 to allow for further preparations and ensure a successful world-class inaugural edition in Lagos.
The three-day competition is expected to end on Sunday.
