A tragic road crash involving a military vehicle and a commercial passenger bus has claimed the lives of at least six people in Adamawa State, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), authorities have confirmed.

The Adamawa State Police Command disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje.

He disclosed that the fatal crash occurred at about 1:50 p.m. along the Narehi axis between Girei and Song Local Government Areas.

According to the statement, the crash involved a military gun truck traveling from Gombi towards Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, causing the commercial bus to overturn and burst into flames.

All five occupants of the bus were trapped in the burning vehicle and died at the scene.

Police said preliminary identification revealed that four of the victims were serving members of the National Youth Service Corps posted to Adamawa State.
Two of the deceased have been identified as Suleiman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while efforts are ongoing to establish the identities of the remaining victims.

The command also confirmed that a military personnel traveling in the gun truck lost his life in the accident, bringing the total number of confirmed fatalities to six.

Emergency responders, including police officers and other rescue personnel, were immediately deployed to the scene to evacuate victims and secure the area.

The remains of the deceased were subsequently moved to the Specialist Hospital in Yola, while authorities continue efforts to identify all victims and contact their families.
Expressing condolences over the tragedy, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, sympathized with the bereaved families, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the National Youth Service Corps, and others affected by the incident.

“This is a deeply painful loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and all those affected by this tragic accident,” the police commissioner said.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the devastating human cost of road traffic crashes on highways across northern Nigeria, where families, students, workers, and travelers continue to lose loved ones in preventable accidents.
