Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday arrested and detained the Director of Personnel Management, Treasurer, Cashier of Nasarawa Local Government Council and a Senior Special Assistant to the governor, Mustapha Maifada over alleged diversion of N105m.
Credible sources told SolaceBase that the three council staff under instruction were directed to give N105,000 to the Senior Special Assistant for a program.
However, they were accused of issuing a cheque of N105m to the governor’s aide since November 2024.
Acting on information from a dragnet set up to monitor local government finances, the commission commenced an investigation into the alleged diversion of funds.
One of the sources told SolaceBase that during interrogation, the detained council staff claimed the payment was a mistake and a situation that the antigraft agency refused to accept considering that the alleged crime was committed in November and other information at its disposal.
‘’Suspecting that probably the arrangement between is not working the detained council staff just quickly reported the matter to the police, ‘’the source told this paper.
The source noted that in the course of an investigation, it was discovered that Mustapha Maifada has bought properties with the money.
‘’Investigation is still ongoing and they may be prosecuted after the conclusion of investigation.’’
Several calls to the antigraft commission chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado was not successful as his phone lines were not going through.
Similarly, the spokesman of the commission, Kabir Abba’s phone was not attended to.
