Gunmen have launched a fresh attack on Lakwaya town in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, abducting five residents.
The incident, according to local sources, occurred on Sunday night at Zurin Mahauta village, throwing the community into fear and tension.
Confirming the development, the village head of Zurin Mahauta, Murtala Mai Unguwa, said the attackers stormed the area under the cover of darkness and whisked away the victims to an unknown destination.
He said security operatives were immediately alerted and they responded promptly, adding that efforts were ongoing to track down the abductors and rescue the victims.
Residents of the affected community have expressed concern over the recurring attacks in the area and called for sustained security presence to protect lives and property.
When pressmen contacted the Army 3 brigade Public Relations Officer, Captain Babatunde Zubairu, he said five people were kidnapped and the troops were doing their best to return them safely.
“Only five were abducted and we are trying to get them back. Troops on the ground are doing their best to return them safely to their families,” he said.
