An NGO, Dr Dahiru Muhammad Hashim Foundation, has enrolled 150 pupils from less privileged families in schools and distributed educational materials in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the gesture was carried out under the foundation’s Back-to-School Initiative for the 2026/2027 academic session, with the theme: “Investing in Education, Building a Brighter Future.”
Presenting the items to the beneficiaries on Thursday in Kano, the founder, Dr Dahiru Muhammad-Hashim, said the initiative was part of his commitment to giving back to the community that nurtured him.
Muhammad-Hashim, who is also the Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change in Kano, said the initiative was aimed at supporting pupils across various wards in Dala by providing educational materials and improving access to school opportunities.
He stressed the importance of education, describing it as the backbone of societal development and a critical tool for addressing challenges confronting society, particularly insecurity and economic hardship.
“Among these children, we don’t know who the future leaders will be. Some of them may grow up to continue this kind of initiative because they have benefited from it.
“For three years now, the foundation has carried out several humanitarian activities including distribution of school uniforms, renovation of schools, empowerment and provision of free medicines to residents, among others,” he said.
Muhammad-Hashim urged the beneficiaries and their parents to make judicious use of the materials and to serve as good ambassadors of the foundation.
“We will continue with the initiative to enrol our children back to school,” he pledged.
He also commended individuals who supported the initiative by providing 500 school bags and 1,000 books to the foundation.
Earlier, the Chairman of Dala Local Council, Alhaji Surajo Imam, commended the foundation for the sustained support for education and community development.
Imam said the gesture demonstrated the importance of promoting education as a tool for societal transformation and growth.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries’ parents, Hajiya Hafsat Shehu, thanked the foundation for the gesture, particularly for including children living with disabilities among the beneficiaries.
She pledged to make good use of the materials and ensure that their children attended school regularly.
