Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has raised concerns that some residents are collaborating with criminal elements from outside the state to perpetrate kidnapping and other crimes.

Speaking at the 2026 Ministers’ Conference organised by the Edo State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN in Benin City, the Governor said some local collaborators recruit criminals from other parts of the country, facilitate kidnap-for-ransom operations, and hand over victims to armed gangs hiding in forests.

Governor Okpebholo lamented the growing trend of residents partnering with outsiders to commit crimes against fellow citizens, assuring that his administration would continue to pursue criminal elements relentlessly and strengthen security across the state.

The Governor further cautioned religious leaders against pleading on behalf of individuals arrested for criminal offences, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law without interference.

Renowned cleric, Bishop David Abioye, charged ministers of the Gospel to uphold holiness and integrity, emphasising the need for a life free from adultery and other moral compromises.

Governor Okpebholo reassured residents that security agencies remain on high alert and are working tirelessly to prevent criminal groups from gaining a foothold anywhere in Edo State.
