President of Arewa Youths, Alhaji Danbature Abdul-Hamid, has urged Nigerian youths to promote unity, peace, accountability and national development.
Abdul-Hamid made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja to mark Nigeriaβs 66th Independence Anniversary.
He said youths had an important role to play in shaping the countryβs future, urging them to use social media responsibly and avoid spreading information capable of causing division.
The Arewa Youths president said Nigeriaβs diversity should be regarded as a strength, stressing that citizens could disagree on issues without allowing differences to degenerate into ethnic or religious hostility.
He called for greater investment in education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, agriculture, technology and other areas capable of creating opportunities for young Nigerians.
Abdul-Hamid also urged youths in Northern Nigeria to contribute positively to the Nigerian project by promoting education, development, peace and national integration.
He said the legacy of Nigeriaβs early leaders, including Sir Ahmadu Bello, demonstrated the importance of human capital development, institution-building and investment in future generations.
The president called on government at all levels to provide an enabling environment for young Nigerians to prosper, while urging citizens to engage authorities constructively and demand accountability peacefully.
He said Nigerian youths should reject hatred based on ethnicity, religion or region, adding that the common needs of citizens provided a basis for stronger national unity.
Abdul-Hamid expressed optimism about Nigeriaβs future, urging young Nigerians to remain committed to building a peaceful, prosperous and united country.
He wished Nigerians at home and abroad a peaceful and meaningful 66th Independence Anniversary. (NAN)
