The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested a 20-year-old suspected cable vandal in Dambatta Local Government Area of the state.
The NSCDC State Commandant, Mr Mohammed Hassan-Agalama, disclosed this at a news conference on Tuesday in Kano.
Hassan-Agalama said the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Dambatta Division at 4.15 a.m. on Oct. 2, following credible intelligence.
He said the suspect was intercepted in a white Volkswagen Golf Wagon with registration number KMC 656 ZJ.
“Following further investigation and a search operation, our operatives recovered four bags filled with aluminium electricity conductor cables concealed in a compound in Dambatta town,” he said.
According to him, the vehicle was allegedly used by the suspect to convey the vandalised items.
He said the recovered conductors were bare stranded aluminium wires, ACRS/AAC type, commonly used for overhead 33KV, 11KV and low-voltage electricity distribution lines.
The commandant described vandalism and theft of critical national assets, particularly electricity infrastructure, as a serious threat to public safety and socio-economic development.
He said the corps remained committed to protecting critical infrastructure across the state.
Hassan-Agalama added that the corps was currently on the trail of two other prime suspects who were at large.
He assured that appropriate legal action would be taken against the suspect upon completion of investigation.
The commandant commended the Dambatta Division operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, urging members of the public to provide credible information to security agencies to prevent vandalism and protect critical national assets.
