Four coaches of Warri–Itakpe train derail, passengers injured

Four locomotive coaches of the Warri–Itakpe Train derailed on Monday, leaving several passengers injured and others unaccounted for as of the time of filing this report.

Confirming the development in a statement, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr Kayode Opeifa, said emergency response teams and relevant authorities are currently at the scene attending to the situation and providing necessary assistance.

“The Corporation is closely monitoring developments, and a detailed statement will be issued as soon as more information becomes available,” the NRC MD stated.

The NRC urged the public to remain calm and rely only on official channels for verified updates.
