Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has congratulated Muslims in Kano State, Nigeria and across the world on the commencement of the Islamic New Year, 1448AH, urging the faithful to draw inspiration from the timeless lessons of Hijrah in their personal and collective lives.

This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesman Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Friday.

Governor Yusuf described the Islamic New Year as a significant moment in the history of Islam that reminds humanity of the virtues of sacrifice, patience, courage, discipline and unwavering faith in the face of challenges.

He noted that the migration of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah was not merely a physical journey, but a profound transformation that laid the foundation for a just, compassionate and prosperous society built on the principles of equity, brotherhood and service to humanity.

The governor urged Muslims to use the occasion to reflect on their relationship with Allah, renew their commitment to righteousness and embrace values that promote peace, tolerance and social harmony.

According to him, the challenges facing society today require citizens to emulate the spirit of Hijrah by rejecting division, hatred and selfishness, while embracing unity, compassion and a shared sense of responsibility for the progress of the community.

Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to the people of Kano State for their continued support, understanding and cooperation with his administration, assuring them that government remains steadfast in its resolve to deliver meaningful development and improve the quality of life of all citizens.

He stated that his administration will continue to invest in education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth empowerment, women development, agriculture and social welfare programmes aimed at building a more prosperous and inclusive Kano.

The governor also called on religious leaders, traditional institutions, community-based organisations and other stakeholders to intensify efforts toward promoting moral values and guiding young people on the path of integrity, hard work and patriotism.

While praying for peace and stability across Nigeria, Governor Yusuf appealed to citizens to remember the state and the nation in their prayers, particularly at a time when collective wisdom, unity and divine guidance are needed to overcome emerging challenges.

He expressed optimism that with faith, perseverance and a shared commitment to the public good, Kano State would continue to witness greater progress, harmony and sustainable development.

Governor Yusuf prayed that Allah (SWT) grants the Muslim Ummah a blessed and rewarding year, accepts their acts of worship and showers Kano State, Nigeria and the entire world with peace, mercy and abundant blessings.
