The Kano State Judicial Service Commission has taken sweeping disciplinary actions against several judicial officers and staff following its 90th meeting held on July 3, 2026.
At the session chaired by the Chief Judge of Kano State, the Commission deliberated on reports from the Establishment Committee and the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee concerning allegations of misconduct, corruption, and negligence within the judiciary.

Among the most significant decisions was the compulsory retirement of Alkali Aliyu Yahaya Muhammad, Presiding Judge of the Shari’a Court in Babeji, after he was found guilty of bribery and corruption in connection with a civil suit.
He was also ordered to refund M250,000 received as gratification. Similarly, Ibrahim Ahmad Ibrahim, a court clerk at the same court, was suspended without pay for four months after admitting to sharing in the bribe.
The Commission also directed Muzambilu Ado, Acting Director of Information and Statistics at the Shari’a Court of Appeal, to proceed on compulsory retirement over irregularities in his academic records and admission into the Nigerian Law School.
In another case, Alkali Usman Haruna Usman, Presiding Judge of the Upper Shari’a Court, Goron Dutse, was demoted by one grade level for negligence after allowing estate sale proceeds to be paid into a court official’s personal account. He was also issued a strong warning and had his earlier recall from judicial duties ratified.Legal
The Commission further warned Alkali Abdullahi Wayya of the Upper Shari’a Court, Kasuwa, for negligence in supervising a bail process that led to the improper release of a defendant.
Inspector Shehu Adamu was referred to the Commissioner of Police for investigation after misleading the court about bail conditions, while two registrars, Salmanu Zubairu and Ahmad Kabir, are to face further inquiry over their roles in handling bail documents.
The Commission also revisited its earlier decision on Hon. Alkali Umar Sunusi Danbaba (PhD), lifting his recall from judicial duties after new documents showed the complaints committee had not recommended such action. Reaffirming its commitment to integrity and accountability, the Kano State Judicial Service Commission noted that misconduct, corruption, or abuse of office will not be tolerated and warned that erring officers will face appropriate sanctions.
