Northwest University denies viral video claim over Emir Sanusi

The International Humanitarian Law Society, Northwest University Kano, Chapter, has dismissed a viral video alleging that Emir Muhammad Sanusi II received special treatment over an academic carry over.

Kabiru Suleiman Saje, President of the society, made the clarification during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

Saje said the event, which held at the Faculty of Law, had nothing to do with the allegation being circulated on social media.

He explained that the Emir was invited to the programme as the royal father of the occasion.

“The issue being circulated is not true and has no basis whatsoever. It was an event held at the Faculty of Law, and the Emir was invited as the royal father of the occasion.

“The International Humanitarian Law Society, Northwest University Chapter, organised the event,” he said.

The clarification followed the circulation of a video in which some individuals alleged that Sanusi had a carry over and brought people to the university to influence the matter.

Saje said the claims did not represent what transpired at the event, stressing that the programme was organised to recognise individuals for their humanitarian contributions.

The event was attended by Prof. A.J. Suleiman, Dean, Faculty of Law; Prof. Amina Salihi Bayero, Vice Chancellor, Northwest University, Kano; and His Highness Muhammad Sanusi II, CON, Emir of Kano.

Others included Hon. Sunday Dare, Spokesman to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Dr. Sani Ibrahim Koki, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Law; and Dr. Zakiya Haruna, Patron, International Humanitarian Law Society.

A response from the Kano Emirate also described the viral video claim as untrue, saying some people were creating false information or news to attract media attention. (NAN)
