Kano State has officially launched a sports competition for tertiary institutions, drawing 17 participants from federal, state, and private schools.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the secretary of the organizing committee, Alhaji Jamilu Abdulhamid Bello, stated that this year’s tournament is uniquely organized for staff members rather than students, with the primary objective of fostering unity and camaraderie among the institutions.
He further noted that the initiative continues to gain widespread acceptance, highlighting the strong turnout of school leaders at the opening event.
The opening match featured a football encounter between Kano State Polytechnic and Azman University, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
In his remarks, Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai, Vice-Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, and chairman of Kano higher institutions, reiterated that strengthening relationships among the academic community is a core goal of the event, which successfully bridges state, federal, and private tertiary institutions.
He also expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government and the State Ministry of Sports for their support in ensuring the successful takeoff of the tournament.
