Authorities of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps in Kano State have apprehended a 25-year-old individual named Alkasim Ya’u for allegedly fatally stabbing his father at the Tudun Yola ‘C’ area of Gwale Local Government Area in the state.

Mohammed Falala, the NSCDC Corps Commandant, revealed this information during a phone interview in Kano on Sunday.

According to him, the incident took place on Friday around 1330 hours at the residence of Alhaji Salisu Bala.

“The deceased, Alhaji Ya’u Mohammed, had taken his mentally ill son, Alkasim Ya’u, to the Psychiatric Hospital Dawanau for medical treatment. They had an appointment to see a medical doctor on Saturday, January 6,” he stated.

He further explained that instead of returning to Katsina, the deceased opted to stay at his brother’s house at the same location.

“Our investigation indicated that Alkasim’s mental illness was a result of his involvement in drug-related activities.

“Upon their arrival at Tudun Yola, the son, in an agitated state, attacked his father with a sharp object. NSCDC operatives in the area intervened, transporting the victim to a hospital and apprehending the suspect,” he added.

He mentioned that the family was in the process of arranging for the transportation of the deceased’s remains to Katsina for burial. Simultaneously, the suspect and the evidence were handed over to the Rijiyar Zaki Divisional Police Office for further investigation.
