Port Harcourt was gripped by pandemonium as a middle-aged protester tragically lost his life while attempting to discharge an explosive device in front of Hotel Presidential at approximately 9:45 am.
Eyewitnesses recount the chaotic scene as security agents swiftly responded to the incident, with the victim’s body hastily removed from the scene. Another observer, speaking anonymously, highlighted how the protesters’ procession caused significant traffic disruptions en route to their destination.
The unfortunate event unfolded amidst a backdrop of political unrest, as leaders from various wards of Obio/Akpor rallied in solidarity for FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Notable figures such as Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Ogundu Chinda, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martin Amaewhule, and former Council Chairman George Ariolu led the march, advocating for continued police presence in the councils to maintain order.
