On Wednesday night, the Ishieke Police Division in Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State came under heavy attack by unknown gunmen.

The incident, which began around 9:30 pm, involved intense gunfire that forced residents into hiding.

Tony Nwori, a local source, reported that the gunmen arrived at the police station in two cars and started shooting sporadically in the air.

The attackers engaged in a gun duel with the policemen on duty in front of the station for over 30 minutes before additional security operatives arrived for reinforcement.

Another source noted that the escalating situation drew the attention of more security forces, including the Army, who responded in significant numbers to apprehend the assailants. The gunmen reportedly continued shooting while moving toward Odomoke Ishieke market along Nwiboko Obodo road in the Ebonyi Council Area.

Despite multiple attempts, confirmation from the police was not obtained. The Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, was unreachable by phone and had not responded to text messages at the time of this report.

Meanwhile, a viral video has emerged showing some of the suspected hoodlums shot dead during the confrontation. The exact motive behind the attack remains unclear as investigations continue.
