The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has convened its 74th Senate sitting in Kano State, where its engaged in a thorough deliberation on the precarious state of the nation.
After the sitting, the senate president of the body, Comrade Okunomo Henry Adewumi reads put some of the resolutions of the meeting:
“We express our profound dismay and disillusionment with the current economic trajectory, which has precipitated unprecedented hardship and suffering on Nigerian citizens.
_Fuel Price Crisis_
The recent astronomical increase in fuel prices has triggered a cascade of economic woes, including skyrocketing market values of goods and commodities. This has resulted in immense suffering for Nigerian citizens, who are already grappling with poverty and economic hardship. We urge President Bola Tinubu to take immediate and decisive action to reduce the fuel price and ensure affordability for all Nigerians.
_Economic Interventions_
We recommend organizing a well-structured and inclusive economic summit, where all critical stakeholders can convene to proffer lasting solutions to the crumbling economy of our nation. We also demand that the government explores alternative economic strategies to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
_Proposed Protest_
While we understand the sentiments driving the proposed protest by well-meaning Nigerians, we urge our members to remain calm and observe the government’s response to our demands. We will not hesitate to mobilize if the government fails to address our concerns.
_Ultimatum_
We call on the government to immediately reduce the cost of petrol. Failure to comply will leave us no option but to mobilize and take to the streets in protest. We demand the immediate sack of the NNPC GCEO, Mr. Mele Kyari, for his incompetence and ineptitude in handling the Dangote refinery and obvious conflict of interest in their fuel racketeering scheme. We also demand that the CBN Governor takes immediate action to stabilize the Naira-Dollar exchange rate, bringing it down to a maximum of 600 Naira to a Dollar within 30 days. Failure to comply will result in call for his removal from office.
In conclusion, Nans reiterates it’s commitment to the welfare and well being of Nigerian Students and the nation at Large. We will continue to engage with the government to ensure that our demands are met, and our nation is placed on a sustainable path. We urge.all stakeholder’s to join us in this quest for a better Nigeria.
