A Christian cleric, Prophet Sam Alo, has empowered hundreds of unemployed graduates and youths with vocational training and start-up capital.
The initiative formed part of the church’s annual 30-day fasting and prayer programme, held at Jesus City, Lekki–Epe Expressway, Lagos, and themed “Sure Mercy of David.”
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the cleric said the programme, now, in its eighth edition, benefits no fewer than 5,000 Nigerians each year through humanitarian and spiritual interventions.
According to him, beneficiaries are trained in various trades such as tailoring, welding, and mobile phone repairs, and provided with tools and funds to start their businesses.
“Our goal is to make young Nigerians self-reliant so they can support themselves, their families, and the nation. University certificates alone are no longer enough to secure jobs in today’s Nigeria. Combining education with vocational skills opens more doors,” he said.
He urged wealthy Nigerians to contribute to job creation by investing in youth empowerment, adding that artisans without the means to start their trades were also supported.
Participants at the event praised the cleric’s philanthropic efforts and called on him to sustain the gesture.
