The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has responded to a leaked internal memo about a special prayer session organized by its staff, clarifying that the event was not an official policy initiative to address agricultural or food security challenges.

According to a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry said the prayer session was a voluntary programme initiated by the Human Resources Department as part of internal staff welfare activities. It was compared to other staff-focused programmes such as monthly aerobic sessions, use of a gymnasium, and routine medical check-ups.

“The exercise is not an official policy to address agricultural and food security challenges in the country,” the statement clarified.

The Ministry said it is working on food and nutrition security in line with the administration’s agenda.

“The Ministers and the management team are working to ensure food and nutrition security for the country in accordance with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.”

It mentioned recent actions including the delivery of over 1,000 tractors and the launch of a commercialization phase of an agricultural programme.

“More than two million bags of fertilizers have been distributed to farmers across the country to reduce production costs,” the statement revealed.

The Ministry also referenced efforts to support cooperative societies and involve them in economic activities.
